The death of Nick Adenhart of the LA Angels

Los Angeles Angels’ pitcher Nick Adenhart was involved in a car accident after last night’s game against the Oakland A’s and died today. He was 22. The official statement from the Angels can be found here.

As a Cardinal fan, I can’t help but be reminded of Darryl Kile and Josh Hancock. While most of us don’t get to know these players personally, we do, in some sense, establish a bond with the teams and the players based on mutual admiration and respect. The only thing I can say right now is I feel for the Angels and their fans. It will be hard, but take solace in the game. I’m sure Adenhart would have wanted it that way.

Update on…uh…me!

Good afternoon! I wanted share the news that I recently scored a gig writing a weekly Cardinals column on InsideSTL, a website run by St. Louis sports radio personality Tim McKernan. My column will run every Sunday; my first article posted this past weekend (look for Chris Reed, not Bird Brained). I’d love it if you stopped by over there, and feel free to leave a comment!

I will continue to post here as well, as I love this site and this blog community. 2009 Guessology on the National League is coming soon so stay tuned!

As for Opening Day, well…things just did not go as planned. As many of you know, the weather was awful. Temps stayed in the 30’s all day with high winds and occasional flurries. I brought a camera to take pictures but forgot to put the SD card back into it…so we got about four pics on the entire day. We got to tailgate with our bleacher crew, which was great, but of course the game was a disaster. Two blown saves and a bullpen loss. So after a long day of grilling and partying and walking and cheering and lamenting, I was drained…home and in bed by 9:30. I’m old.

The Nooner #11: Get out the vote…again!

It’s my turn in Round 2 of the Latest Leaders bracket challenge over at The Max. And I’m a severe underdog, folks, going up against arguably a favorite to win it all: Red State Blue State. I can’t say anything bad about those guys, and I can’t think of any way to make my blog better than theirs. So I’m appealing to YOUR sense of wanting to see an upset! Vote for me!
